Littlewick Green Cricket Club is greatly saddened by the news of Mike Elsam passing this week. Mike had been ill for some time and our thoughts and best wishes are with his wife, Helen.
Mike was a star batsman for the club over many years, scoring a mammoth total of runs whilst hitting the ball far and wide. His distinctive look (front row 2nd from the left in both pictures below which includes the Diamond Jubilee Cup win in 1982) and destructive batting means that he remains one the club’s most famous players across Berkshire and the Thames Valley - he won our 1st XI batting award 10 times, scoring over 1,000 runs seven years in a row, winning the Berkshire League Batsman of the Year Award and in 1988 scored 1,750 runs including seven centuries.
Helen was also a loyal supporter and regular scorer for the 1st XI for twelve years (Helen is seen standing on the right). Mike was an Honorary Life President of our club, and Helen remains a supportive Vice President.
Towards the end of his career Mike also helped us establish the 2nd XI and his exploits at Chalfont St Giles when seven Littlewick Green players took on and beat the opposition thanks to Mike and John Riches opening and scoring 293 between them not out to win, made a headline story in the local press!
Mike will be sadly missed.
